Lance Earl McCluskie, of Owen Sound, passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services Owen Sound hospital on Thursday, March 24, 2022 in his 94th year. He will be deeply missed by Lorna (née Clarke), his wife of 65 years, and children: Earl (Carolyn), Gary (Barbara) and Brian (Kara). He was predeceased by parents Wilfrid and Clara (Cameron), brothers Alex, Cleo, Harry and sister Ina Hill. He was a cherished grandfather to Ted, John, Kaitlyn, Charla, Cameron, Alana, and Alex. He is survived by many dear family and friends.
Lance’s education included a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor and Master of Education from the University of Toronto. He started his working life with the school boards in Sudbury and then North Bay, before moving to Owen Sound as Superintendent of Education with the Grey County Board of Education. Upon retiring, he served on many committees including the Grey-Bruce District Health Council. But his true post-career passions were playing golf as a life-long member of the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club, curling at the Grey Granite Club, exercising at Stonetree’s fitness centre, researching the McCluskie and other families’ genealogies and maintaining the family cottage which provided decades of good memories for sons and grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, March 28th, 2022 from 12:00pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm at the Breckenridge Ashcroft Funeral Home, 241 9th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-2326. A reception will be held following the funeral service. The family requests that masks are worn to keep everyone safe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
We are deeply grateful for the compassionate support and care the staff at the hospital and Hannah Walker Place provided our father and us.
