Beth Graham passed away peacefully in her 98th year on Sunday evening February 5, 2023 at the Hanover Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Peter Graham (1999). Cherished mother of twins Mary Howell (Michael) and David Graham (Cathryn). Adored grandma of Caithlin Millar (Robby), Graham Howell (Lisa), Toby Howell (Shalyn), Georgia, Jackoby and Islay Graham. Great grandma to Annabelle, Hayden, Linden, Cassidy and Lennox. Predeceased by her loving parents Harry and Madge (nee Little) Logan and her treasured grandson Peter Graham.
Beth became a wartime school teacher at the young age of 18. She began her career at SS 10 Keppel (Kemble), a one-room schoolhouse, where she taught for 8 years and was notable for having brought one class of students straight through from grade 1 to grade 8. She then retired to raise her twins and help out on the family farm. She came out of retirement in the late 60’s to teach at Zion Public School and later at Hillcrest in Owen Sound.
Upon once again retiring, she became involved in community events, particularly with the Retired Teachers and the Kemble Women’s Institute where she served for many years as president and secretary. She particularly enjoyed keeping the Tweedsmuir History for several decades.
Beth’s strength, optimism and positive attitude were particularly evident these past few years as she coped with declining eyesight and hearing. She never complained and made the best of every situation. To Beth, the simple things mattered most – a warm house, a comfy blanket, a good novel, a purring cat, a cup of tea, family nearby and, of course, a yellow or red sucker!
Her family would like to thank the paramedics, doctors, nurses and PSWs at Owen Sound and Hanover Hospitals for their excellent care over the past month. Beth enjoyed her 3 1/2 years at Kelso Villa. Thanks particularly to Melissa Olmstead and her staff at “A Caring Soul” and Brenda Heathers who went beyond expectations with their thoughtfulness in her time there.
The funeral service will take place at the Breckenridge Ashcroft Funeral Home in Owen Sound on Friday February 10 at 11:00 with David Mossy officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday February 9 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be live streamed. The live stream can be watched in the service details below or on the funeral home’s Facebook page @BrownFamilyFH
