It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of A. Joseph “Joe” Strader at age 78 at Chapman House on Monday, December 14, 2020.
Joe was the beloved husband and best friend of Beverley (nee Heasman) and the late Sheila (nee Rehkoph). He will be deeply missed by his children Joanne and her husband Bob Wilhelm of Hanover, John Strader and his wife Tammy, Steve Strader and his wife Linda of Walkerton, Jim Strader and his wife Kim of Kincardine, Laura and her husband Rick Murray of Scone and stepdaughter Wendy Stewart and her husband Shane Gurney of Owen Sound.
He is loved by 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, along with his sisters Winnie (Russ) and Mary, and missed by his brother and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his daughter-in-law Brenda, and 2 grandchildren Eric and Brad, and many brothers and sisters.
Joe was born on June 20th 1942, on the Southline of Brant Township to Noah and Amelia (Schwehr) Strader. He was the youngest of 16 children.
Growing up and working hard on the family farm ,which has been passed down to his son Steve, Joe was always content and happy gardening there and on his property in Markdale. He worked hard at everything he did from growing cucumbers and making them into pickles, Day and Ross trucking, harvesting sap then making maple syrup, and raising chickens and turkeys. His four legged buddy Deegan will miss "going on patrol" with Joe at the Markdale property. Joe loved his country music, square dancing and curling. He was an avid traveler and had many great memories of the world. Joe loved to tell jokes and always had a comeback. His humour and laughter will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a thank you and much gratitude to all the caring and helpful staff at Chapman House.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at the family farm next summer.
Memorial donations to the ALS Society or Chapman House in Owen Sound would be appreciated by the family.
