Ross Dobson, 89, of Owen Sound, Ont. passed peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2019 of natural causes. Joseph (Ross) Dobson began his life in Walkerton Ont. under the caring direction of loving parents Bill & Hester and with the companionship of his brothers Harold & Elmer and favorite sister Elizabeth. He was keen and adventurous and while still in his teens started two restaurants (a third years later) with brother Harold, the Crowd Inn at Sauble Beach & the Wunderbar in Walkerton. He soon met his beloved wife Donelda (then Negus) from Owen Sound and together they raised a family of four, Karen, Kevin, Brian & David. Family came first with Ross and he took his responsibilities very seriously. Friends were close by and there are many many people employed by the restaurants who will always have a story to tell of their times there. Ross had many interests from gardening to jazz music to carpentry and curling, golf, baseball and coaching hockey as well as a love for dogs , his favorite being the German Shepard. He was a long time member of St. Paul's United and joined in the choir. He was fortunate enough to spend some winters in Florida where he won many a shuffleboard trophy. However, he was no stranger to hardships and suffered many ailments in his long life. He always fought hard and generally won his battles. He especially liked to whip someone at a game of cribbage around the card table, often at the legion where he was a member. Always up for as laugh he loved a good comic from Maxwell Smart to Woody Allen and Jerry Seinfeld. Sadly, one of his life's last wishes, to "see Trump get his comeuppance" has eluded him. In seriousness though Ross lived a full and accomplished life.
"Regrets, I've had a few, but then again too few to mention..."
Ross will remain in the hearts of all his kids, grandkids, great grandkid, son and daughters in law, nieces and nephews (you know who you are) and maybe a distant cousin or two out there still kicking as well as friends at Stonewyck. And of course, his lifelong partner Nell. Many of Ross's family and friends have left on earlier departures and we are sure the welcoming committee will be overjoyed to see him again.
